About the performers:

》》》 Nita Aartsen

Described as the ‘rising star’ of Classical and Jazz in Indonesia, Nita is renowned for bridging cultures and styles including Jazz, Classical and traditional ethnic sounds from Indonesia and around the globe.

Nita was born in Jakarta, Indonesia and started learning the piano at the tender age of five. After spending three years in the Moscow Conservatory learning Contemporary Jazz, she returned to Indonesia in 1986, to take over as the state pianist of the Republic of Indonesia.

She stumbled across her path to become a singer quite accidentally. The Bali native was working for the oldest cruise ship line in the world - MV Athena as a photo and videographer, when she casually sang for a soundcheck. A cruise staff recorded the impromptu performance, her soulful and powerful voice captivated a lot of people and from there, news got around. Soon after Ika was appointed as the official MV Athena cruise ship songstress marking the start of her official singing career. This lasted from 2008 to 2012.

Returning back to her homeland, Ika continues her passion for singing. She had a few stints as a wedding singer before joining forces with The Soul Brothers in 2013, forming a soul & funk band who has a firm following all over Bali. Catch their updates @ikaandthesoulbrothers
